Recircuit
Collective
Recircuit Collective is a non-profit run by high schoolers in NYC. We work to sort, test, and repurpose the e-waste of our community towards educational robotics workshops for the youth, keeping the functional old electronics out of landfills.

Our Mission
We want to reduce electronic waste while making robotics education more accessible to the youth of New York City. The devices our city discards every day are full of working motors, sensors, and circuit boards that a young person can learn real engineering from — and the fastest way to keep that material out of a landfill is to put it back into someone's hands. Every donation is sorted, tested, and either repurposed into workshop hardware or routed to a downstream recycler, so nothing usable is destroyed and hazardous items are responsibly handled.

How It Works
Sorted
Every drop-off is logged and checked for what's salvageable. Usable electronic parts and hazardous material go a different way.
Tested
Working components are examined and organized into our inventory. Usable parts become the hardware for workshops.
Repurposed
Utilizing the recycled electronics previously collected, robotics workshops are organized and hosted at libraries around the city.

Our Story
In March, Joanna participated in a climate advocacy rally, where she learned how a part of landfill volume is made up of electronic waste. Later, in July, Joanna and Kahaan attended a robotics workshop together and recognized that the parts in the very devices our city discards could instead be used to teach engineering to the youth.
Since then, they have reached out to local ecology centers to pursue formal partnerships while collecting and sorting through donated electronics. Their goal is to host the collective's first workshop by September.
We keep usable electronics parts in circulation by taking apart donated devices and repurposing the working parts into workshop hardware. Anything that cannot be reused is dropped off and responsibly recycled by ecology centers.
